There's a comment above by Theo Seeds about military children. I once saw a cartoon where two children were in strollers & the children's thought bubbles were "Look! Another kid!" whereas the adults had different recognition. I grew up around Navy families & the only thought I remember about my bestie was that my hair didn't do cool shit (although I probably didn't think "shit"). My parents had two couples they were close to. One couple from The University of Michigan & the man looked about as sexy-smart (black) as it gets & wife looked like a barbie. The other couple (black) were the parents of my bestie. I still struggle with that level of awareness as an adult. I always thought of myself as "the brown girl"...
If anything, when it comes to intelligence, perhaps the minority has more acute observational skills? When one must adjust to the dominant culture & also navigate one's own? The "they" claim confident women are better at science & math.
I had an aversion to reading this because at first I assumed the writer was white. Did the Trump administration do that to my brain? Or The Proud Boys?
Thanks for this. Ancestry matters & is filled with environmental influences.
